WhatsApp remains the leading messaging service for billions of users, boasting a calling experience that rivals regular calls, even on shaky internet connections. An update from the company will soon introduce additional features for voice and video calls to make the app even more user-friendly.
To start, when arranging a group call, you can now pick which person to add and which one to leave out. This function is excellent for planning a surprise party or not disturbing a friend who’s constantly busy.

In October, we discussed WhatsApp’s introduction of video call effects. Initially, the variety of effects was minimal, but now they’re introducing 10 new choices. These range from the popular dog face filter to an underwater scene. To access them, tap the Magic wand icon. Personally, I find these filters quite handy for easing awkward silences during extended video calls.
The love wasn’t just showered on the mobile app. The desktop app also saw improvements with the addition of a dedicated call tab. Users can now place calls, generate call links, and dial numbers right from their computer, making it more convenient than ever.
Ultimately, video calls will provide better reliability along with higher resolution. If your connection is sufficient, you’ll enjoy top-notch video sessions. This enhancement applies to both the mobile and desktop versions of the app.
With this update in place, WhatsApp has become the top choice for calls for numerous users, myself included. A number of people I know have mostly shifted to using WhatsApp calling as their primary method. I am also currently transitioning to this service. What do you think about these updates? Will you be trying out the new video call effects or placing group calls while leaving out that bothersome friend? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
